Periscope Circle

The proposal consists of a central sculpture of five weathering steel clad periscope towers siting above a reflective circle; A pedestrian and cycle path bisecting the loop, connecting the VCA to the ACCA and the art precinct beyond; A translucent barrier screening off the noise from the traffic while allowing the perimeter of the site to be activated with seating, formal planting and a skateboard park. The Proposal works on two levels, introvert and extrovert: Introvert – A hidden bush trek through newly planted indigenous species with a central landmark oasis, which allows the explorer to voyeur significant Melbourne landmarks from within a density of wildlife. Extrovert - Visible from surrounding areas and to those entering Melbourne along the Westgate Freeway and CityLink, the materiality semblance with the ACCA acts as a visual indicator to Melbourne’s Arts Precinct.
